Carpet Cleaning | 3 Steps To Get The Smell Of Dog Urine Out Of Your Carpet

Home & Garden Blog

Pet dogs are delights for most owners, but they also come with a few inevitable mishaps. Despite house training dogs, accidents are bound to happen because your furry friends can occasionally slip up on your well-maintained carpets. Dog urine contains a pungent ammonia odour that can engulf your entire home, so undertaking carpet cleaning immediately will help to get rid of the stink. This guide will help you get the smell of dog urine out of your carpet.

Mix A Solution Of Water And Vinegar In A Spray Bottle

The trick is to get to the urine stain as quickly as possible to neutralise the odour. Create a cleaning solution by mixing equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. White vinegar contains acetic acid, which is effective for removing any stains and neutralising the urine's ammonia smell without causing any carpet fading. Vinegar is typically available in most homes and doesn't contain any harmful chemicals, making it a good and safe carpet cleaning solution for your home.

Spray The Stain With The Solution

Spray the stain with the water and vinegar solution until you completely saturate it. Keep in mind that saturation is important because you'll want the cleaning solution to penetrate into the lower fibres of the carpet, so that every area is tackled for neutralising the odour. Let this solution sit on the stain for several minutes to lighten the stain and neutralise the stringent odour. Once done, use paper towels and blot the area to soak up the solution. Let the carpet dry for a few hours. This step should remove the stain and reduce the urine smell considerably.

Sprinkle Baking Soda Over The Stained Area

Once your carpet is nearly dry after a few hours, sprinkle some baking soda over the area to absorb any remaining odour. Baking soda acts as a natural absorbent and deodoriser, which will neutralise the odour after several minutes. Let the baking soda settle into your carpet fibres for several minutes. After a little while, you can vacuum the area to remove the baking soda from the carpet fibres. This carpet cleaning step should ideally remove the dog urine smell. If not, you will have to repeat the steps over again.

If your carpet dog urine stains have been around for too long or are too stubborn to remove on your own, then you should ideally hire professionals, such as Stain Busters Carpet Cleaning, to tackle them. Professionals have a myriad of cleaning supplies and solvents to undertake carpet cleaning and to remove any odours.

Renovating Your House

Hello! Welcome to my blog! My name is Julie and I live in a large house in the suburbs of Perth, Australia. My husband and I moved into our current home a couple of years ago and since then we have been working to transform it into our dream place. The house itself is lovely, but the interior looked like something from the 1970s. When we started our renovation project we didn't have a clue what we were doing. However, with each job we completed and each mistake we made, we learnt a new skill. I decided I would like to share what we have learnt here.
